On a cold, dark and damp January evening a group of about 30 people mixed with adults and children stood huddled together waiting for a bus. This was no ordinary bus. It was a 1932 Dennis Lancet who's owner lives in Cambridgeshire.
Eventually the blue and cream vintage bus pulled up and everybody got on. It rattled along for 100m and stopped, right outside the from of the Light Cinema in Wisbech. This was where our film premiere of "Home from Home" was taking place.
On board the bus were all the actors for the film which was a 1944 drama following a small group of children being evacuated from London to the small town of Chatteris. A story that was based on real events.
Everybody alighted the bus and straight onto the red carpet which led into the warm glitzy cinema.
All our family's were there cheering as we came through the doors. Upstairs there were hundreds of people from local dignitaries, the press, a 1940's band, local museums, displays from the filming and many more.
It was amazing to see to see what had become of this project in the 7 months after it had all begun for me.
It all started on 22 Jun 2015 when I had my initial meeting with 20Twenty Productions CIC. They had approached me to write a World War 2 drama for the youth group which would be made into a film.
Research started from 20th Jul once the go ahead had been given from the lottery commission for the funding. The writing began on the 1st Aug and concluded on the 12th Aug. The completed script was 43 pages long.
Once the script was in place, a trailer was made.
Filming took place between 26 - 30 October during the half term when all the children where free. Filming locations included the Ramsey Rural Museum, Heacham Railway Museum, Ryder farm and Heacham Beach. Other locations included the churches at Doddington and St Peters in March.
We had good press coverage from the Cambs Times.
You can enjoy the finished film here. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it.
